The three-time Grammy Award winner with three cookbooks under her belt, including a New York Times bestseller, grew up on country cooking in Georgia with her family’s traditional recipes passed down, from Grandma Yearwood’s Coconut Cake with Coconut Lemon Glaze to Daddy’s Famous Brunswick Beef Stew. So fans can be assured her recipes are authentic, coming straight from the heart.
Did I mention it’s the kind of food that spells C-O-M-F-O-R-T from Georgia (jAWr – juh)? Here is her Skillet Apple Pie with Cinnamon Whipped Cream. While away in college, Trisha would miss her family’s cooking so much that she would call her mother (quite often) for the recipes. Over the years the collection of recipes later led to what it is today, which she calls “a happy accident.”
“We are the family, like most families, who have those recipes written down on a scrapbook napkin, and it’s in a shoebox. I mean, and you look in the shoebox for 10 minutes before you find what you’re looking for. I thought, ‘We’ll have ’em all in one place.’ And it turned out to be one cookbook. And then two cookbooks. And now, a show. So it’s really been a happy accident.”
From her humble Georgia roots, to Nashville, to now living in Oklahoma, Trisha gets to cook ‘from her table to yours,’ and even better, she cooks along with family members and friends, including her country music friends like Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson! And then there’s this other country music singer named Garth Brooks. He’s kind of famous too..
While cooking with family and friends, viewers get to see Trisha’s personable, no-nonsense and authentic approach. And she’s hilarious: one Halloween they painted themselves up as members of the iconic rock band KISS. She’s not afraid either to admit on the show that she uses the canned stuff (peaches) for recipes, and proud of it. But it’s the true southern hospitality that stands out that will make you wish for the Deep South ‘sweet iced tea on the porch family gathering.’
Although she’s busier these days, Trisha shares,
“I’m definitely the happiest I’ve ever been in my life,” Trisha told ET. “You find what makes you happy and it’s usually being with the person you want to be with.
My husband Garth says, ‘This cooking show is really like laughter with some recipes thrown in.'”

So what is Trisha’s most popular recipe?
“The thing that people have said over and over again, especially people who don’t cook is, ‘I watch your show, the food makes me hungry, and I think I can make that.’ That’s exciting because we’ve heard that a lot of people watch cooking shows, but don’t make the food. One that I know people really like is my Crock-Pot mac and cheese. It’s comfort food that’s good for Super Bowl parties and easy to make.”
Trisha’s refreshing candor will admit she has cooking fails, and in this instance she gave a trip down memory lane when first dating Garth when she tried to make his favorite dessert: German chocolate cake. Unfortunately, she inverted it too early and the cake broke into several pieces. He offered to “glue” it back together with the frosting.
“That’s when I knew he was a keeper,” she says. “It looked like a volcano cake but it tasted great!”
And one of Country Music’s finest also make a great team when it comes to helping those in need. Trisha has been an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for 10 years, and can drywall with the best of them. She and Garth have helped build numerous homes, including a trip to Haiti in 2011. In 2013, Trisha and Garth, along with Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, helped build homes in four states: California, Colorado, New York City and New Jersey.
Along with her other successes from her cookbooks, to cookware at JC Penney and Walmart, and a home collection with Klaussner, Trisha has her feet planted firmly on the ground, and still tied to her roots. We can only celebrate and commend her for inspiring people, not only through her music and cooking, but as a giving, charitable person who loves her family, people and life!
